The job
Abuelo's Steakhouse is on Bloomfield Avenue in Bloomfield. The renovation touched almost every part of the building: the face on the street, the storefront opening, the interior and the kitchen.
The work started outside. The crew took the old stone and brick facade apart, then opened up the front wall and carried it on a new header beam, set with a material lift. Inside, the dining room and back of house came down to the studs and joists.
The kitchen went from a small existing kitchen to a commercial cook line under a stainless exhaust hood, with six-burner ranges and a fryer. A restaurant kitchen like this is where one coordinating contractor pays off: hood, ventilation, fire suppression, gas, electrical and plumbing each need their own inspection, in the right order.
The finished storefront has black-framed windows and an entry door, and the front of house has finished flooring, lighting and walls.
